After leaving the "Hospital San Juan de Dios", we turn right, and right again at the corner and head down "Rector López Argüeta" Street. The first picture below doesn't seem particularly beautiful, does it? Nonetheless, it is indeed quite special. The church you see is that of the Monastery of San Jerónimo (built in the 17th century). Between the place where I snapped this shot and the church, the street had been lined with buildings, over a hundred years old, that had completely blocked this view of the church. Some time in 2003, these buildings were demolished, and plans were made to put up some new constructions there. But for a period of some months, passers-by could see the church from this angle - which was, no doubt, the first time in well over a hundred years that this was possible! Earlier this year (2005) however, the new construction was begun, and now, this view is once again blocked, for who-knows-how-many decades to come.

Another 50 meters or so down the street, and we enter the outer courtyard of the church/monastery complex. Here's the view after entering...

  We look up, and see
the church to the left...

   ..and the entrance to
   the monastery straight
   ahead.

The orange trees in the courtyard.

I almost felt like a monk myself meditating in this lonely passageway.

             Inside the church

The ceiling is an elaborate display of incredible artictic detail

I don't know how this organ sounds,
but it certainly is a wonder to behold!

We leave the church, and walk back up through the outer courtyard of the church/ monastery complex towards the exit,

...then turn right and walk back up to "San Juan de Dios" street, from where we can get a good view of the back of the San Jerónimo church.

Just six or seven minutes walking distance from San Jerónimo is the Granada Cathedral. Let´s have a brief look at that area.. (Click here.)
